When it comes to back pain, most people think of poor posture, hours at a desk, or hunching over their phone. But in the world of lifestyle and fitness, experts are now pointing to a surprising cause—weak feet and ankles. According to Cult Fit founder Rishabh Telang, your back issues might be starting much lower than expected.
“Most individuals do not know that their foot strength has a direct impact on the rest of their body,” states Rishabh. “If your foundation is poor, it causes misalignment, which impacts your knees, hips, and ultimately, your back.”
This change in perception is important for individuals who wish to enhance their overall physical well-being and implement healthier habits within their daily exercise routine.
Basic Home Exercises to Strengthen Feet and Ankles
If you’re dealing with back pain and have tried everything from posture correction to stretching, it might be time to focus on your feet. These home workouts for posture and pain relief are easy and effective:
Alphabet Toes: Sit on a chair, extend one leg, and “draw” the alphabet in the air with your big toe. Switch legs and repeat. This builds foot mobility and strength.
Deep Ankle Stretch: Stand on a chair with one foot. Holding the bottom for support, push your knee forward beyond your toes. Stretch and repeat 10 times on both sides. This aids ankle flexibility and balance.
Toe-Heel Walks: Walk 10 steps on your toes (raising heels), and then 10 steps on your heels (raising toes). This enhances foot strength and stability, which further stabilizes your back.
The Bigger Picture: Your Body is Connected
Your Body is Integrated Within the realm of lifestyle health, the key is to know that the body is a single system. An imbalance or weakness in your feet will have a ripple effect all the way up to your back.
So, if you’re having trouble relieving back pain, don’t only concentrate on your upper body. Building up your feet and ankles may be the missing link in your fitness puzzle.
