What Is Operation Abhyas?
Operation Abhyas is a full-scale war readiness exercise led by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It prepares citizens and authorities for emergencies like air raids, evacuations, and blackouts.
Unlike previous drills, this operation focuses on both urban and rural zones. The Integrated Response System (IRS) underpins the effort. Its goal is to build fast, coordinated responses across all levels of government.

Why This Drill Matters Now
The Pahalgam terror attack exposed gaps in public readiness. In response, the government planned Operation Abhyas to simulate wartime conditions. Sirens, mock air raids, and power blackouts are part of the drill.
Officials want to build awareness and reduce panic during real threats. That’s why the MHA has involved police, local disaster teams, and civil defence groups.
