Teenage star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created a new T20 record despite getting out cheaply in Rajasthan Royals’ final league match on Sunday. The young batter scored only four runs against Mumbai Indians, but still finished the season with a historic achievement.
With his latest knock, Sooryavanshi reached 583 runs this season, becoming the teenager with the highest number of runs in a single T20 tournament or series.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks Devdutt Padikkal’s Record
Sooryavanshi went past Devdutt Padikkal, who earlier held the record with 580 runs for Karnataka in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The Rajasthan Royals batter has enjoyed a dream season so far. In 14 matches, he has scored 583 runs at an average of 41.64 and an impressive strike rate of 232.27. His season also included one century and three half-centuries.
Rajasthan Royals Beat Mumbai Indians to Enter Playoffs
Even though Sooryavanshi failed with the bat, Rajasthan Royals still managed to defeat Mumbai Indians comfortably and secure a playoff spot. RR needed a win in their final league game to qualify for the playoffs. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals posted 205/8 in 20 overs.
Jofra Archer Shines With Bat and Ball
Jofra Archer played a key role in the victory. He smashed 32 runs off just 15 balls and later picked up three wickets while defending the target. RR bowlers restricted Mumbai Indians to 175/9 in 20 overs. Along with Archer, Brijesh Sharma and Nandre Burger took two wickets each.
For Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar Yadav scored 60 runs from 42 balls, but his effort was not enough to save the team.
Rajasthan Royals Batters Deliver Team Effort
After losing early wickets, Rajasthan Royals recovered well through useful contributions from several batters. Dhruv Jurel scored 38 runs, while Dasun Shanaka added 29 runs. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 19 runs at the end.
For Mumbai Indians, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar picked up two wickets each.
Kumar Sangakkara Explains Archer’s Promotion
Rajasthan Royals surprised many fans by sending Archer to bat at number seven, while Jadeja came in at number nine. Speaking after the match, RR head coach Kumar Sangakkara explained the strategy behind the move.
He said the team wanted Archer to play aggressively and attack the bowlers before the death overs. Sangakkara added that the move worked perfectly as Archer helped RR reach a strong total.
The RR coach also praised Archer’s all-round performance and said the England pacer has been fully committed to the team throughout the season. According to Sangakkara, Rajasthan Royals were looking at a total close to 180 at one stage, but Archer’s late hitting helped them cross the 200-run mark.

With this important win, Rajasthan Royals have officially entered the playoffs and will now focus on winning the title.
