Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the new Aadhaar app on Tuesday, seeking to make Aadhaar access more digital, secure, and user-friendly. He made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter). The app was created by the government in association with UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). It introduces AI-driven Face ID authentication and QR code-enabled instant Aadhaar verification to Indian citizens.
No More Aadhaar Photocopies!
Now, individuals will not have to carry their Aadhaar card or its photocopies during travel, shopping, or hotel stays. Rather, they can just use the Aadhaar app for instant verification of their identity.
“Needless to offer Aadhaar photocopies at hotel receptions, shops, or at the time of travel. The Aadhaar App is secure and shareable at the user’s discretion,” stated the Minister.
Actually, this 100% digital solution offers complete control over data for users while providing quicker verification.
Main Features of the Aadhaar App
The new app features some robust capabilities:
- Face ID Authentication: Authenticate using your face — no need to surrender physical documents.
- AI-Driven Verification: Speedier, smarter, and safer identity verification.
- QR Code Scan: Simply scan a QR code to securely share Aadhaar information — as simple as a UPI payment.
- User Consent Based Sharing: You choose what you want to share and when you want to share it.

Aadhaar Verification – As Simple As UPI
Just as UPI QR codes are found at payment locations, Aadhaar verification codes will also be found at locations where identity verification is required. For instance, while checking into hotels or booking travel.
As such, users don’t have to do anything other than scan the QR code through the app. The app checks the face in real time and transmits the information directly from the phone — not from a photocopy.
Full Control Over Your Aadhaar Data
The Aadhaar app provides complete control to the users. It lets them share only what is required — and only when desired. Thus, personal information remains secure and isn’t exposed unnecessarily.
Meanwhile, the app is in the Beta testing mode and will soon be available all over the country.
