Patna: The poor Bihar government hospital condition became a major issue in the Bihar Legislative Assembly during the budget session on Monday. BJP MLA Maithili Thakur strongly raised concerns about the unsafe condition of a government hospital in her Alinagar constituency.
During Question Hour, she questioned Health Minister Mangal Pandey and warned that the hospital building could cause a serious accident at any time.
“Hospital Building Is Dangerous,” Says Maithili Thakur
Maithili Thakur told the House that plaster falls from the ceiling regularly. She said deep cracks have appeared on the walls. During the rainy season, water leaks into hospital wards.
Despite these risks, doctors still treat patients inside the same building. Pregnant women and children also stay there. She said this situation directly threatens people’s lives.
She also rejected the department’s written reply. The reply claimed the building only needs minor repairs. Thakur said the ground reality looks very different.
No MBBS Doctor, Limited Facilities
The MLA said healthcare services run from a very small room. She added that no MBBS doctor currently works at the hospital. Earlier, two MBBS doctors were posted there, but both have left.
She questioned how such problems exist when the government increases the health budget every year.
According to her, the Bihar government hospital condition poses a bigger danger than medicine shortages. Unsafe buildings can collapse without warning, she said.
Health Minister’s Reply Fails to Convince MLA
Health Minister Mangal Pandey said the government takes hospital infrastructure seriously. He informed the House that officials have approved new buildings for several hospitals. Construction has also started at some locations.
He added that authorities have identified hospitals in extremely poor condition. The government plans to repair or renovate them in phases.
Maithili Thakur immediately objected. She said officials placed the hospital in her area on the list years ago. However, no repair or construction work has started till now.
She said every year officials talk about plans and approvals, but nothing changes on the ground.
Assembly Sees Heated Exchange
After her repeated questions, the atmosphere inside the Assembly heated up. Opposition MLAs supported her by thumping their desks. Some ruling party members looked uncomfortable.
The Speaker intervened and helped move the proceedings forward.
Social Media Applauds MLA’s Stand
Soon after the video surfaced online, users shared it widely on social media. Many praised Maithili Thakur for raising a serious ground-level issue.
People said poor government hospital infrastructure affects many districts in Bihar. Several users hoped that raising the issue during the budget session would force authorities to act.
