India’s cab-hailing market is seeing a major change today with the official launch of Bharat Taxi in New Delhi. Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will launch the app at 3 PM in the Delhi-NCR region.
The All India Radio confirmed the launch on X and said the service will strengthen the cooperative sector. The platform also aims to offer a more citizen-focused travel experience. After Delhi-NCR, Bharat Taxi plans to expand to more cities and states across India.
What Is Bharat Taxi?
The Bharat Taxi launch stands out because of its cooperative ownership model. The service is run by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and places drivers at the centre of operations. Each driver, called a Sarathi, owns shares in the cooperative and does not lose a part of their earnings to commission.
The service does not operate directly under the Government of India. Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited runs the platform. Professionals linked to Amul, a globally known cooperative success story, support the initiative.
How Bharat Taxi Works
Bharat Taxi follows a simple and driver-friendly model. Each driver, known as a Sarathi, owns five shares in the cooperative. The app does not deduct commission from each ride.
Drivers pay a fixed fee of Rs 30 per day to access the platform. This model helps drivers avoid high commission charges faced on private cab apps like Uber and Ola.
Passengers also benefit from this structure. Officials say fares can be up to 30% lower than private cab services. Bharat Taxi earlier claimed it has over 4 lakh registered drivers.
Safety Features for Passengers
Bharat Taxi focuses strongly on rider safety. The app offers a dedicated helpline for users. In partnership with the Delhi Police, authorities have set up 35 special help booths across the city.
Every driver completes a verification process before joining the platform. These steps aim to ensure a safer and more reliable travel experience.
Bharat Taxi Pilot Phase Results
Bharat Taxi started a pilot phase in December 2025 in Delhi and Gujarat. During this period, the platform recorded an average of 5,500 rides daily.
Airport trips formed a major share, with nearly 4,000 rides per day. These numbers showed strong early demand for the service.
App Features and Ride Options
The Bharat Taxi app offers multiple ride choices. Users can book AC and non-AC cabs, XL vehicles, autos, and bike taxis.
The app layout feels familiar and easy to use. Recent updates improved the design and booking flow, matching the experience offered by other popular cab platforms.
