Sonu Sood supports Rajpal Yadav during one of the toughest phases of the actor’s life, as he faces serious legal and financial trouble linked to a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. Just before surrendering at Tihar Jail, Rajpal made an emotional statement about his financial crisis, which soon drew strong reactions from across the film industry.
Sonu Sood Supports Rajpal With Film Offer
On Tuesday, Sonu Sood publicly expressed solidarity with Rajpal Yadav. He announced that Rajpal would be part of his upcoming film and would receive a small signing amount to help him during this difficult phase.
Sonu shared his message on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram Stories. He urged filmmakers, producers, and colleagues to stand by Rajpal and show that the industry supports its own in tough times.
“Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given memorable performances for years. Sometimes life becomes unfair, not because of lack of talent, but because timing turns harsh,” Sonu wrote. He added that the signing amount was not charity, but a matter of dignity and respect.
Rajpal Yadav’s Emotional Confession Goes Viral
Sonu’s message came shortly after Rajpal Yadav’s emotional statement spread across social media. According to reports, Rajpal admitted that he was facing a severe financial crunch and had no one to turn to for help.
When asked about his legal situation, Rajpal said he did not have the money to repay the amount and could not see any other solution. He also stated that he was dealing with the crisis alone and did not seek help from industry friends.
How Rajpal Yadav’s Legal Trouble Began
Rajpal Yadav’s legal issues date back to 2010. He had taken a loan of ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata, released in 2012. The film failed at the box office, leading to repayment problems.
In April 2018, a magistrate court convicted Rajpal and his wife under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act after multiple cheques issued for repayment bounced. The court sentenced him to six months of simple imprisonment. A sessions court later upheld the verdict.
Court Orders and Missed Deadlines
Rajpal later approached the Delhi High Court, which granted temporary relief in June 2024. The court suspended his sentence and asked him to show genuine efforts to clear the dues, which had increased to nearly ₹9 crore.
However, the court noted repeated failures to meet payment commitments. By October 2025, Rajpal deposited ₹75 lakh, but a large part of the liability remained unpaid.
Surrender at Tihar Jail
In February 2026, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma ordered Rajpal Yadav to surrender, stating that repeated leniency could not continue, regardless of celebrity status. The court rejected his last-minute request for additional time to arrange funds.
On February 5, 2026, Rajpal surrendered at Tihar Jail around 4 PM to serve his six-month sentence.
Industry Reaction
Sonu Sood’s gesture has received widespread appreciation online. Many users praised him for supporting a fellow actor during a tough phase. Several also called on the film industry to show unity and empathy in times of crisis.
