Bengaluru: In a shocking twist, the Om Prakash murder case has hit the headlines in Karnataka. The wife and daughter of former Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, who was stabbed to death at his residence in HSR Layout on Sunday, have been arrested by police.
The brutal murder of the veteran top cop in retirement has led to widespread outcry, with the police now searching deeper into what seems to be a family dispute that turned into violence. The police confirmed that Pallavi, 65, and Kriti, daughter of the deceased officer, had been arrested for the murder.
Son’s Complaint Opens the Om Prakash Murder Investigation
The FIR for the murder of Om Prakash was lodged after his son, Karthik Prakash, complained. He claimed that his mother and sister were depressed and mentally unstable and frequently fought with the former police chief. He also disclosed that his father had recently left home after receiving threats from Pallavi.
On the second last night before the murder, Kriti persuaded her father to return home. According to police, this action most likely resulted straight away in the fatal encounter.

Domestic Violence Claims Prior to Murder
Police found revolting online posts by Pallavi. During a WhatsApp forum intended for policeman families, she accused Om Prakash of torturing her and Kriti with domestic abuse. She was also concerned over guns allegedly being possessed by their son.
“Such incidents are caused by disputes over properties, family quarrels, and greed,” read one of her messages.
A Glorious IPS Career Short Circuited
Om Prakash was born in Bagaha, Bihar. He started his career in the police in Karnataka after joining the IPS in 1981. He served as Additional SP in Ballari and subsequently occupied key positions such as DGP of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Lokayukta police.
He retired in 2017 and was staying with his family in Bengaluru.
Individuals from his village talked about the troubled past of his family. His inter-caste wedding created a deep schism with his mother. Residents also mentioned that he constructed a Hanuman temple in Bagaha on a visit in 2022. Ever since then, his native place has been under lock and key.
