Mumbai Weather Update – Heavy rains lashed the city on Sunday and Monday morning, causing waterlogging and disrupting daily life. The showers arrived shortly after the southwest monsoon made an early onset in Kerala. Roads flooded, and train services slowed down during peak hours across India’s financial capital.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded Mumbai’s weather warning from yellow to orange, forecasting very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds up to 60 kmph. The same warning was issued for Raigad district.
Local Train Services Slow Down
Waterlogged railway tracks disrupted suburban services on the Central Railway. Affected stations include Masjid, Byculla, Dadar, Matunga, and Badlapur. Local trains are still running but at reduced speeds in several locations. Central Railway spokesperson Swapnil Nila confirmed the updates.
Rainfall Totals in Mumbai
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded the highest rainfall at:
- Nariman Point fire station – 104 mm
- A Ward Office – 86 mm
- Colaba pumping station – 83 mm
- Municipal Head Office – 80 mm
The IMD expects light to moderate showers in the city over the next 24 hours.
Monsoon Hits Kerala Early
The monsoon arrived eight days ahead of agenda in Kerala. This is the earliest onset inside the beyond 16 years. It has already spread across Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Mizoram.
According to the IMD, conditions will assist the monsoon circulate into Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and extra areas of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the northeast within the following few days.
