Fresh Wave of Bomb Threats Alarms Delhi Schools
Over 40 schools in Delhi were struck by bomb threat emails on Monday, December 9. According to Delhi Police, the sender demanded $30,000 to avoid detonating multiple bombs reportedly planted within school premises.
The threatening email stated, “I planted multiple bombs inside (school) buildings. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. If I do not receive $30,000, I will detonate the bombs.”
Prominent Schools Evacuated for Safety
This alarming situation unfolded shortly after similar threats were sent to DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka Public School in Paschim Vihar earlier that morning. The Delhi Fire Department was alerted around 7 am, and police acted swiftly. Both schools evacuated students and sent them home as a precautionary measure, ensuring no harm came to the children or staff.
A Repeat of May’s Scare?
This incident bears a chilling resemblance to the scare in May when nearly 150 schools in Delhi received similar bomb threats. Investigations later revealed these threats originated from Budapest, Hungary. At that time, authorities found no explosives on the premises, but the fear left an indelible mark on the affected communities.
Political Fallout: Criticism of Central Government
The bomb threats have sparked political tension, with Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accusing the BJP-led central government of failing to ensure safety.
In a post on X, she stated, “After the daily incidents of ransom, murders, firing in Delhi, now threats of bombing of schools are being received. The law and order situation in Delhi has never been so bad before. The BJP-ruled central government has failed in its only task of providing security to the people of Delhi.”
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, highlighting a perceived decline in law and order within the capital.
Authorities on High Alert
Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert, working to trace the origin of the threats. Security measures in schools across Delhi have been heightened, and officials are urging calm while prioritizing safety.
